Excerpts from Recent Lectures and Guidance
January 27, 2013: New Year Gathering (Pacifico Yokohama)
In order to connect the two dimensions of spirit and phenomena, we must produce another power that surpasses the power of repulsion that is being generated by the physical sensation of pleasure and pain. There is a way of life that enables us to bring forth that power from within us.
“Trials are callings” represents the idea that will guide us to lead such a way of life. We begin this by shortening the distance between the incidents and ourselves and try to understand how we are related to those incidents. The realities that occur before us have not arisen as mere coincidences. It is calling to us: through this hardship, become aware of something; nurture a certain aspect of yourself; summon forth a new self or your real self by overcoming this difficulty. That is how we listen to the calling from incidents.
We are to perceive trials as “callings” and we address them in this way: What is this incident calling me to do? What do I need to respond to? As we seek answers, the two dimensions of spirit and phenomena, which usually repel each other, then merge as one within us. While uniting them as one, we should also aspire to overcome this reality without running away, abandoning, or giving up. Then, the power of our souls surfaces from within us – a power that transcends the sensations of pleasure and pain.
No matter how severe the situation before us may be, if we truly seek to do this, and attempt to connect ourselves to incidents in earnest, then true experience will occur within us.
Why did I encounter this incident? What should I strive to become through this incident? Through the attempt to answer these questions, you will be able to produce in your heart and mind these kinds of realizations: I was born to do this work; This is the reason why I was born. This can happen to anyone and everyone. I believe that this kind of true experience is accessible in everyone’s life,
