Excerpts from Recent Lectures and Guidance
July 20, 2015: The Third Lecture from the Fourth NexStage Series Seminar
Like this, when we apply a certain formula such as, “this is what it is, and nothing more, and that is that, nothing more” to the situation in front of us, we stop thinking of its possibilities and development.
We must restore this once fixated situation back to Chaos.
This means that this fixated Chaos needs to be brought back to life once again. Otherwise, we would let go of the possibilities and limitations without ever considering them.
Now, to perceive a situation in front of us as Chaos means for us to see the essence of the situation. In order to do so, we must open up the eyes of our hearts. And for us to open up the eyes of our hearts, I would like all of you to gain the wisdom for perceiving Chaos, From Ordinary Perception to Enlightened Perception.
From Ordinary Perception to Enlightened Perception means to not only see what is apparent on the surface, but to perceive the possibilities hidden behind, including its true meaning and its essence itself. Enlightened Perception is the way that the Kannon Bodhisattva looks at things.
This path From Ordinary Perception to Enlightened Perception begins from Ordinary Perception. Ordinary Perception means we perceive an object in a vague manner. Through this Ordinary Perception, we end up perceiving the situation with the view which fixates the situation that I mentioned earlier, “this is what it is, nothing more, and that is that, nothing more” based on our preconceived notion and three streams of influence from our pasts.
That is where our path begins. Here is the illustration of our path as we go from Ordinary Perception to Enlightened Perception. First of all, there are many ways of perceiving: Micro-View or Macro-View (seeing parts or whole), Monitoring for a long period of time or Diagnosing for this particular moment , Foreseeing the future or Reflecting back on the past, Verifying the fact or having Insight to the meaning that is behind the fact.
So as we can tell there are many ways of perceiving, but when we cultivate each wisdom and master them all, our Ordinary Perception becomes Enlightened Perception.
